Helping for NO reason?
I feel bad...but maybe I did the right thing in expressing my feelings....I mean, what is the worst that can happen, right?
I wrote the following to the folks at www.urbanconnection.com on the comments section of the "About Us" page:
"I found your site looking up aquaponics. Ironically, we have the same mission…only you all have made many more steps than I and my group have and we don’t intend to do it the way you are.
I know that we must be able to learn from the success of others…and in that spirit, I am glad you have had success.
I am writing you now, however, to express a conflict that I have…and clearly…this is MY problem…but I thought perhaps my point of view may make sense to you…so here it goes.
I have serious issues with organized religion of any sort. I feel it is the number one reason employed by those who oppress us (and yes, there are real, tangible forces that wish to enslave us) to divide us so that we are more easily conquered. I understand that the Catholic claim to being the “spokesperson for Christ” was a governance tool…and I guess one MIGHT say that the ends justified the means….but I look around at the world and CLEARLY this is not so. In the face of serious population issues and womens rights violations, they have been a prohibitive force on logical solutions. I understand that not all Christians are aware that their bible comes from the Vatican’s basement…but knowing that is so…and that the UN itself has granted them claim over any document in anyway connected with Christ by mention…means that any form of biblical referencing does so with their blessing.
Now I feel terrible right now…what kind of audacity could I possibly possess to question people doing great things for the love of humanity? The thing is this…I feel that leading people away from the true nature of God and our cumulative consciousness by tying it to this long history of tyrannical behaviors for the sake of power is granting these men…who have stolen our rights to God…merit.
Just for fun…why not a woman for pope? You want to speak to “God” on behalf of all life on Earth? Why not a woman who knows what it is like to create a couple herself? Perhaps 10 of them…so she knows what each one costs.
My point is just that though I think it is beautiful what you are doing….even if it is benign and a true attempt at helping people…is it really help to mislead people as to the true power of taking responsibility and that WE are all part of the cumulative that is “God” and we create our own reality with what we envision?
I ask you to consider how truly powerful it would be to do the same thing for love and nothing more…is it really so far off from the truth? Is it blasphemous to see God as love…and just leave it at that? Why does it have to fill the hopper with people now primed to carry out political agendas with religion to back it up? Why can’t we just do what is right by each other? Why do people need a religion to find God??? And who says these Christ followers (for which many of us honestly don’t think he existed with some compelling evidence to back it up) have the market on God?
It disturbs me to see people handed religion before reason…or any sort of real education. Especially desperate people in vulnerable states of being.

So...there it is. I was all bent out of shape that a friend of mine from my high school days is a crazy born again that has issues with understanding how science works. So sad. I just can't take arguing with someone I'd first have to educate! God love him.

did u know the scriptures of the bible have been around way before the UN and the Vatican.....and the only women the bible oppressed where the ones that have issue of morality....but at the same time it does make the man responsible for how he treats his wife.....the pope can not speak for God he is not Gods viceroy in fact he is the pagan connection to what is supposed to be christian....there are lots of misconception of what is christian...as of myself on my journey I've learn through the bible Christ himself did not like the pagan mix of organised religion it corrupts how man address the issue of how to connect with God in the true intentional form of the relationship......though some speculate that god has it out for women they are the true back bone of the modern day church and they are attacked consistently for their own beliefs.....by the immoral majority...claiming that the a subjective and are slaves and they have no understanding of the world .....i see no reason a person should be mad at the bible for what man has done on and to this earth...there is no real connection to the pope and the bible i believe the pope and the Vatican should answer to their crimes against humanity but i also believe there is a lot more humanity in the bible than people are willing to read about..... Jesus is known as a healer and a miracle worker....he loved those who love the true god and shunned those who thought they were

Its like you haven't read any of the stuff I have already said. I am out of responses to your posts when they make it clear that you didn't absorb the points I have already made. We...the rest of the world...understands that EVERY bible on Earth originated from tablets and scrolls that are owned and operated by the Vatican. I am FULLY aware of when the Vatican was established....third century A.D...and it was from there that ALL bibles originated. Your arguments aren't even valid.

i only question these statement as a christian im seeing why and what people are against this religion and what for...these are my beliefs.... im trying to get to the answer most people have a lot of facts with out being able to point out the source of their information....so i may call bull until its been proven ......i think that is okay right i my self love freedom and right to all the people no mater their sex or race.....i do how ever question peoples motives just like you do...i have seen alot of people who have made changes for some reason from learning something from the bible some for the better some for worst ive seen people being mislead from it too.....my intentions is not to hurt you but understand your struggle with it.... i need to be able to make an argument and defend what i believe in.... in the end of the day im trying to sell you anything i just want to see how thorough you research is against these organizations to find some truth in these matters.....
Great blog Allison. Austin Dacey at the Ethical Ear rights in his new book "The Secular Conscience" about the importance of doing good without the concept of a "reward" for doing good. It is a choice at every moment how each of use interacts in society. Greg, excuse me this will sound really extreme, I can just as easily harm you as talk to you. Two objects meet, both are driven to survive, how do we do this? The point I am making is that we as living beings at every moment are responsible for our actions, completely and without exception. There is no external force that has control over me, unless it is given.
ReplyDeleteNow, that was a heck of a lot to take in, so lets back up.
Right now we live in a world that has many old beliefs because we've based our collective reality on it. And like everything else, as time moves forward new data is collected and new outcomes are observed and recorded.
It is understandable that some would choose to ignore certain change, or be uncomfortable with the results. This is as Human as it gets. No one wants to be Wrong. No one wants to believe that their "belief system" or "world view" or whatever was not true. Yet the first step to change is accepting that change is possible, that I could be wrong.
For a long time Greg I was a Born Again Christian. I was raised in a Lutheran home, I love(d) that idea of God. For 1 year I traveled and performed with a Christian Ministry singing group called "Carpenters Tools" I did alter calls, I brought people to "Christ"
Spirituality is a major part of my existence. It is a major part of most of my friends world as well. Along the way I have had many self discoveries, as most of us do, based on life experiences. One of the first ones was the very simple disconnect I had with the fact that an All Loving, All Caring, All Knowing "god" would Choose one people over another, or allow someone to burn in hell forever, these things made no sense, they are Illogical.
Another major awakening was to the fact that so many cultures around the world all had very similar hero/god stories, based around the Sun (Son) and the idea of death and rebirth.
Then I moved to Germany and started to study the German language. This educated me to the idea of Translation, it was clear that the bible, as Written was not the word of God. Not when it is voted on by people, nope.
Does that mean the bible is worthless? Oh Hell no. The bible has tremendous value and is a tremendous tool. Everyone that reads the bible will be enriched in many ways.
Yet I bring this up for all to often when debating someone about any faith, if the person holds that any book is more valid than another, it is clear that this person is not ready yet to honestly look at their world.
There is no time limit, there is no prize, there is no judgement. We are all on our path at the time we are on it.
Socrates said "I know that I do not know" for me this is sufficient. I do not know if there is a God entity like many of use mentally imagine one to be. Yet I have no doubt that there is a God, and that we, each of us is a direct connection to God.
Jesus is attributed in the Bible as saying "Of these works are greater ye too shall do"
what does that mean if not that all the Miracles Jesus performed you can do too, and even greater.

Some will debate if Jesus was even real. I have seen compelling evidence in both directions, to me it is irrelevant. Let us assume for now that he did live.
ReplyDeleteHe tells us, time and time again in the bible that we are god, that we are the direct line to god, he is the original New Age guide. The funny thing is so many times it is the pastors of churches that bend the word to fit their own agenda.
"If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him" is an amazing book on how to deconstruct external belief systems. We all have them. Yet they all rely on the same belief that we are not ultimately responsible because some External Force is and if we are really obedient to this external force we will get a reward.
What if there is no reward? What if there is a reward? Would you really wish to live differently because of this? Are we not capable of making our own responsible choices? I am, others are and I live in a world that says we are all capable of the same greatness and potential.
I choose by actions to live a moral, ethical and compassionate life, regardless of anything, we all can.
Greg...I can totally respect a journey for knowledge, understanding and peace. In this we can agree. I didn't mean to say you were being argumentative. I just mean to say that you can't use a book that has a self-reinforcement clause as its own evidence to its truth. Once one understands the origins of where this book was compiled...it is plain to see that there were a lot of valid stories included for everyone to digest....but that does not mean that our "benevolent" spiritual "leaders" that sanctioned the copying of this book over the course of the "dark ages" (please, please look up this term) chose to include all the facts...and there is astonishing evidence when one applies reason to this discussion that they would specifically and carefully choose what NOT to include as to maintain their control of the situation.
ReplyDeleteEvery single piece of logic I have learned to employ as my life has progressed...using the tried and true scientific method...and all the education I have gained to date...from both college AND individual study...have provided me the skill to see bullshit from a mile away.
I can not begin to give you a list of all the historians, archaeologists, geologists, historical fiction writers, theologians and the like that I have either read personally or have seen quoted for their different contributions to the world body of science. What is amazing and observable is that all of these sciences...due to the rigid methods we employ...are always linked to other sciences....meaning we CAN observe molecular degeneration via an electron microscope. We can see that a chemical breaks down at a specified rate at a specified time frame UNLESS other variables are present...such as acids or corrosives. There is NO debate among REAL, accredited scientists...including all of the brilliant and upstanding, honest professors I have ever met. They never told me their version of the facts...they empowered me to OBSERVE THEM FOR MYSELF.
If you think that all of those, from the people who design our iPhones (a precise manufacturing process DEPENDENT upon chemical and materials sciences for these devices to even be possible)...to the professors that painstakingly imparted their knowledge of said processes to those future techies....are making it all up as they go along JUST to appease all of us "crazy Darwinian scientists"...you clearly don't get how the very EXISTENCE of all our neat advances PROVES that these sciences work...all of the time....in a very predicable way.
you used books all through your education....this is why i choose to do the same i do understand that the evolutionist do claim to have observed real facts but do their claims have undeniable proof in the law of science...or are those thoughts just hypothesis or theory..... even in the smallest molecules are defined as vibrations not as a solid matter.... when become an actual observer in these elements we see more and more of the great design in this universe..... i don't deny that many different have made claims in science but most of them can not prove of evolution at all most of those who do can never find any thing that is consistent or faCT in the end the only thing that has been inconstant are what science has considered as fact...there for i see that there is and inconsistent and unproven truth to these scientific claims......yet the bible even in changing has more relevance than what is thought about the sciences sought in the schools most of them have straight up said none of these things are fact talking on the matter of theory and or hypothesis none of the information can be consolidated to some actual facts......the information in the bible is true and its truth does designate the reader of the information with something of actual use in this world....it is mankind who uses something wonderful and change it to something corrupt and dangerous ........i know that Christ is the truth he comes to save us....from what you may ask........ ourselves
